SPRING EQUINOX

Spring Equinox 2023 in Northern Hemisphere will be at Monday, March 20, 9:24 PM.
Spring Equinox marks the beginning of Spring, the time when day & night, the light & darkness are equally divided. In the old days, when there were no calendars, the Sun set the start of the Spring. It was believed that the regeneration, revival & rebirth of nature would begin from this day: the first Spring thunderstorm, the swelling of the buds on trees & flowers, the sharp emergence of greenery.
The astronomical context makes this day very magical.
It is a special time which signals winter is over & summer is on the way. Just imagine the potential of the Mother Earth as all of nature begins to emerge. A new period of the year begins, strength & fertility awaken. The Spring Equinox represents the return of light & life, the birth of baby birds & animals, the emergence of Spring flowers.
To pagans, this is the time of the ancient Saxon goddess, Eostre who represents dawn, standing for new beginnings & fertility, symbolized by eggs & rabbits or hares for fertility.
The eggs & all seeds are full of promise & new life, symbolizing the rebirth of nature, the fertility of the Mother Earth & all creation.
Spring Equinox is a time of renewal, both in nature & at home.
Now it's a good time to clean up around the house to remove the negative or old energies that have been accumulated over the winter months. Free up your space to fill it with the incoming light from the Sun. Discard, not hide, fold or scatter in the corners, all the unnecessary, old, broken, useless things.

Decorate your home with budding twigs, sprouting bulbs & Willow catkins, Spring flowers like Daffodils, Violets, Iris.
Plant seeds or start your herb garden.
Take a long walk in nature with no intent other than reflecting on the magic of nature & our Great Mother Earth & her bounty.

To celebrate Ostara with crystals, you can use amethyst, azurite, aquamarine, clear quartz, citrine, rhodochrosite, tiger's eye, chrysocolla, carnelian. lapis lazuli, serpentine, moonstone or rose quartz. These crystals correspond with healing, peace, strength, health, love & happiness, growth & renewal.

Ostara colors are green, yellow, golden.

Any dairy food is an Ostara food.
Goat cheese in particular have a very close connection with Ostara.
Leafy green vegetables, seeds such as Pumpkin, Sunflower & Pine. Edible flowers & sprouts.

Drink dandelionnettle burdock teas & cordials at this time as these herbs help to cleanse the blood & are a good tonic for the body after its winter hardships.

MAGIC & FOLKLORE:

Spring Equinox refers to the four power-days associated with the astronomical relationship between the Sun & Earth. On this day, the energy increases &  meditations & manifestations can be particularly productive & very effective. Give yourself some free time for these practices if possible.

The equinox has a huge energy potential that can be used in many ways. Perform rituals to fulfill your wishes. Cleanse your space & your own energy field.

Spring equinox is a time of renewal & cleansing. Make a decision to stop doing things you don't like. If you do something that  doesn't bring you joy & good results, it means that you are at odds with your goals: whether the activity is not right for you or you have to take some time off.
To get rid of unnecessary, negative emotions & everything that interferes with your existence,
sit in front of a candle & write on a piece of paper your negative habits or situations. Burn this paper in a candle flame, letting it all go.
Now you can add something useful, think about what you want to achieve.
Write down on the paper & hide it in a jewelry box or in a secret corner & keep it for a year.

It is best to spend Spring Equinox with your family or loved ones - avoid all negative emotions, disagreements & arguments.
To have a happy year ahead of you, you have to spend the first day of Spring with positive attitudes & happy feelings.
Wish made on that day will surely be fulfilled.
It is a good day day for love divinations- use Tarot, runes, oracles. Focus & ask a specific question.
On the Spring Equinox, girls can guess the sex of the first child by counting who takes the first pancake from the party table. If it is a man, they are expecting a boy & if a woman, a girl.
Dreams on the night of the Spring Equinox are prophetic.

Painting  the eggs is a beautiful tradition associated with the awakening, renewal & fertility of Mother Earth.
The colored or decorated eggs can be  exchanged & gifted to each other as good luck charms for a year ahead... These eggs can be eaten & the shells can be buried or scattered over the soil.

Get a few eggs & start painting. You could use color magic when painting your eggs or draw sigils on them to manifest what you desire.
If you don’t have real eggs, pick up some plastic eggs that open up & write what you wish to manifest  on a slip of paper & place them inside the eggs.
Spring Equinox or Ostara is the perfect time of the year to focus on manifesting creativity & love.

Use a broom to sweep hard-boiled eggs from outside your home to inside to bring in abundance & fertility.
Brown eggshells can be added to protective or healing magic for pets or livestock.
Bury rotten eggs near a crossroad to cause an abundance to be taken away from an enemy.
To ensure that there will be no shortage of food at your home during the winter & to keep those living there safe, bury one egg at each of the four cardinal points of your property: east, south, west, north.
Decorated eggshells hanging from bushes & trees shed blessings of abundance on the land they surround.

Make a wish:

The Spring Equinox is a time of miracles & mysticism, when the wheel of destiny can be turned in the right direction.
The wish  should affect you personally & should not be associated with harming other people.
Choose a calm & quiet environment or somewhere in nature where no one is bothering you. Bring a candle & anchor yourself on the candle flame before you meditate to focus & clear your mind.
Now close your eyes & imagine what you wish to achieve, like a new house, job or new friends, relationships. Focus on your intention, don't go into details, try to feel your intention emotionally, feel the benefits of acquiring something new.
Once you have shaped your intention into a thought-emotional structure, imagine how it is inside the pink sphere & stays in that space. Lift that sphere up towards the sky. Watch with your inner gaze as it rises higher & higher & finally dissolves in height of the skies.. So you have sent your intention into the Universe & your wish can come true for you.

Plant your wishing beans:

Choose some beans that most closely sum up what it is you wish to grow in your life.
Prepare a pot of soil by stirring it with your finger, visualizing your good energy entering into the soil.
Smooth the surface of the soil & then make shallow holes for the beans.
Hold the beans in your hand & breathe into them, infusing them with your hopes.
Plant them, visualizing concrete things you intend to do during the next few weeks to make your wish become reality.
Then water them well, cover the pot with plastic wrap & place it on the windowsill.
In a couple of days, check to see if anything has come up.
If the soil is dry, water it.
Soon your beans will sprout.
After the danger of frost is past, you can plant it in your garden.
If for some reason your beans fail to sprout, you may want to rethink your goals & try again..

Fertility Talisman:

Probably the most common fertility talisman made during Spring Equinox or Ostara is the one made  made from raw eggs. This peculiar talisman can be made only on the power day of the Equinox.
You need a raw egg with two holes made in it. From the one hole you pour the raw egg over the soil or into the snow, so as to bring a gift to the goddess.
Paint the egg shell with natural dyes & colors you like & choose the fertility symbols to suit your taste.
Breathe your energy & intention int the egg shell to wake up the talisman.
Place or hang it into the dedicated space in your home.
Now you have a fertility talisman that will help you all year round.

On the day of the Spring Equinox, observe the weather signs & if it is warm on that day, there is no cold or frost until summer.
One swallow does not make a Spring.
Don’t say that Spring has come until you can put your foot on nine daisies.
