In terms of energy, Mirrors are the strongest & most powerful source of energy, not just portals, but doors, behind which opens a variety of corridors to different levels, to other worlds & dimensions, more often demonic & dead, less often to light, Divine worlds.
Being good conductors like water, Mirrors are excellent conducting the energy & entities, Spirits etc. from their world to ours. Whether they will go back is another question. Mirrors store information, memorize codes in each of the portals & with the sound vibration of incantations, as well as with certain mechanical actions they automatically open the doors necessary for practice.
With the help of a Mirror, one can go into different places that exist in the subconscious collective. Mirrors can be used to call various entities that are on the other side, for divination to look into the past, present & future.
None of these practices are safe & even most experienced are not always able to control the creatures that pass through the portal during the ritual. It is also possible to get lost in time & space looking into other timelines... Such practices are dangerous, especially if the portals are not closed when work is finished..
We need to understand that where the Mirrors lead depends on a lot of factors. We can say that Mirrors lead to the subtle world, the astral/ mental, everyone has their own, we imbue it with our own emotions & beliefs. Thus, the magic of Mirrors will be individual for everyone.

In general, Mirrors are good to work with, if you know how to. You have to know how to open & close the Mirror so that it works on the principle of on–off & not constantly keep the door open to the otherworldly. If you are afraid, then better give up the idea of working with Mirrors, you can get invisible friends for the rest of your life or become another mystery for the psychiatric hospital.

The Mirror that you use every day should not be used for practicing magic. The ritual Mirror must be new, women are traditionally advised to work with round & oval Mirrors, men with square & rectangular ones. It is also advisable to choose Mirrors with the frame.. Do not look in the Mirror during the purchase. Often rituals prohibit from seeing your own reflection. Once in the matrix of a particular Mirror, you bind yourself to it. Pay exact amount, don't pick up your change. This is a standard rule for any magical purchase. Proper cleaning will prevent you from attracting different entities & energies that you don't want around you.
To cleanse & create a barrier against negative energy from our own & astral worlds you can cleanse it over a flame of fire, if the dimensions allow or wash the Mirror with warm spring water or running water, then with cool Wormwood infusion, you should not wipe the wet surface: it should dry on its own. Don't wash with salt, or the reflection will turn out to be cloudy & distorted. When not using it, wrap it in a black cloth.
Don't draw any runes or pentagrams if you don't know how to handle them.
Work with the Mirror only in solitude.
During the ritual, it is absolutely forbidden to touch the Mirror part with your hands.
Do not create tunnels, do not put Mirrors on top of each other.

Work in a room where there are no other reflective surfaces: other Mirrors, TV sets or lacquered cabinet walls must be covered with a thick cloth. You also need to make sure that the Mirror does not show windows & doors.
Do not perform the ritual under electric light. It is acceptable to work by candlelight, preferably wax. This makes it easier for a person to tune in to the right vibrations, which immediately increases productivity.

Use new Mirrors. Immediately get rid of the Mirrors that have dark spots, cracks or incomprehensible drawings on it.

Do not lend your work Mirror to anyone. It's a magical tool, it has only one owner.

When using Mirrors for dreams they should be engraved with certain signs, sometimes even constellations, as key points of returning to the body of consciousness. This Mirror should also be consecrated, preferably in the presence of the Spirit.

Mirror can steal the energy of a person & transmit it to its owner. This can only be disposed of by breaking the Mirror.
