How to make sure you have a real Peridot.
Plastic, glass & quartz are used to form an imitation stone.
A real peridot is always featured by significant double refraction, which ranges from 1.65 to 1.70, enhancing its vibrant color & gleaming charm. This double refraction means that you have to view the gems from close, in front of the light. Light should be split into two paths, producing a visual effect that allows you to see two images of each facet.
If you observe a single light or single image of each facet, then it's likely to be a fake or imitation peridot that is made up of glass or plastic. A fake peridot can't reflect the same characteristics & properties as a real peridot comprises.
Hold a Peridot in front of the lamp, exposing its natural color. Peridots display usually a bright olive-green color. If you find your gem revealing lighter or darker than its original shade then your peridot is a fake. If it turns brown or yellow then probably it's likely to be a fake or imitation gemstone.
Real peridot doesn't change any color by placing it parallel to any light.
Due to the presence of iron, peridots are magnetic in nature & always attract to the magnet.
Peridot does not have the inclusions that will be seen to the naked eye. The best way to find the authenticity of peridot is to examine the inclusions by using the jeweler's loupe. If you found small inclusions or cracks then probably you have a real peridot.
